Best Gluten Free Bread Machines

The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness estimates that nearly 3.2 million Americans suffer from celiac disease. Another 18 million Americans are believed to have non-celiac gluten sensitivities (NCGS). With both conditions, the ingestion of gluten (a protein commonly found in most grains) causes certain antibodies to attack the small intestine. In the beginning, symptoms are often annoying and include diarrhea, stomachaches, and gas. The more time that passes, the more debilitating these symptoms become. The continual assault on the small intestine eventually renders it unable to effectively absorb nutrients, which results in weight loss, anemia, and chronic fatigue.

There is only one effective method of treatment for celiac disease and NCGS: a dedicated, lifelong adherence to the avoidance of gluten.

Following and adhering to a gluten free diet is often frustrating and problematic. There are numerous hidden sources of gluten, and it is not uncommon for naturally gluten free products to be cross-contaminated with gluten. Adopting a gluten free diet is often a matter of trial and error. Common foods that person with celiac disease or NCGS must avoid include:

  • Barley
  • Beer
  • Bleached flour
  • Bread and cake flour
  • Malt
  • Malt Beverages
  • Pasta
  • Rye
  • Soy
  • Teriyaki sauce
  • Vital gluten
  • Wheat

Many of these ingredients are used to make bread. Bread is a common staple in the diets of many American adults – with the average American adult consuming 80 loaves of bread each year; however, for those who must live with a gluten intolerance, there is some good news. A high-quality bread maker can be used to make delicious and nutritious gluten free breads.

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of different bread maker models on the market today, but only a select few are specifically programmed to offer gluten free programs. Today, we’re going to review the best gluten free bread machines currently available.

When buying a bread machine, it is important to look for a model that is programmed specifically for gluten free options. Gluten free dough requires a tremendous amount of mixing because it is less elastic than dough with gluten in it. Similarly, gluten free dough only requires one rinse cycle, whereas dough with gluten requires two, and gluten free bread requires less time to bake than a traditional loaf of bread.

A bread machine with gluten free options will be:

1) capable of handling the heavy workload

2) programmed to take gluten free breadmaking considerations into account.

Living with celiac disease or NCGS is not easy, but with some ingenuity, and the help of an excellent gluten free bread machine, you can still enjoy your favorite foods.

I have heard on amazon the the Cuisinart CBK-100 is very loud. and so you can not run overnight for fresh morning bread. What do u know about the level of sound coming out of this machine while in use? is it quiet enough to run over night? Also does it creep across the counter when in the kneading mode? approximately how long does this machine last for before breaking down? How many years? and how is the customers service?

As far as the Panasonic sd-yr2500 – how loud is the machine? which machine is quieter – the Cuisinart above or this Panasonic version? I want the quietest machine so I can bake overnight with the 13 hour or 12 hour delay overnight cycle for morning bread. I’ve heard the Panasonic company has bad customer service in the amazon comments/reviews what are your thoughts or knowledge? approximately how long does this machine last? some are saying one year only? what is your experience or knowledge of how long the machine works before breaking down? how many years. does it creep across the counter when in the kneading mode?

Who has the best customer service Panasonic or Cuisinart for these above mentioned bread makers?
Over all which is the superior machine? How ever I have a very small apartment sized kitchen so which one is better suited for very small kitchens?

Also what are your thought on the Hamilton Beach Homebaker 29882? another website for gluten free bread makers rates the cuisineart mentioned above as number 1 and the Hamilton beach as number 3 as far as using the bread makers for best gluten free results. what do you know about the Hamilton beach? I think I read a review about the Hamilton beach having problems with the Teflon pealing off the paddle and tub/container. What do you know about this?

The Panasonic mentioned above has some kind of diamond blend coating on the paddle and tub/container so this is very sturdy. How does the diamond coating hold up over time? also for the Cuisinart what is the paddle and tub coated with Teflon or what? how does the Cuisinart coating hold up over time? Is the Panasonic diamond coating better than the coating on the Cuisineart?
Please advise.
Thank you kindly.
